TROUBLE IN GAZA!

Monday, September 26th, 2005

It did not take long for HAMAS (terrorist organization) to use the vacated Gaza Strip (Jewish families removed) as a base of operations to attack Israel citizens and cities. Over 40 rockets have been sent and declarations by HAMAS and other terrorists both within Israel and in other countries hostile to the Jewish State have continued to declare their intentions to destroy the entire Nation of Israel.

Israel had to fight back and destroy several Hamas leaders and tons of weapons smuggled into the Gaza Strip. The Israeli Air Force used precision strikes of missiles to terrorist targets and once again revealed the skill of its pilots and equipment.

World leadership immediately responded and calls for the end of these terrorist attacks upon Israel even came from the leadership of the United Nations. They were deeply troubled over these recent attacks delivered so soon after Israel went through the painful process of removing Jewish families out of Gaza. What “thanks” did they receive? Not one word, but instead, more terrorist attacks! It is time for the world to recognize the futility of negotiations with an enemy (primarily the theology and teaching of Islam) that continues to proclaim its desire to annihilate Israel and in fact, all the Jews and Christians of the world who refuse to submit to Islam!

We know of Muslims who came to America in order to escape the “take over” by Islamic regimes of millions of Muslims who are held captive by a religion that preaches hatred and violence – especially in the Middle East. What is the answer to all of this? The answer is to preach the gospel of Yeshua HaMashiach – Jesus the Messiah – He is the only HOPE of the world! Muslims need the Savior and salvation is found only through Him – John 14:6. Thanks for listening!

HOME WITH THE LORD!

Friday, September 23rd, 2005

Many of you who listen to our radio broadcast either on a station in your area or here on our internet site may or may not know that a wonderful servant of the Lord who has been our Radio Agent and a close Associate of David at HOPE for TODAY Ministries – THOMAS “ED” STEELE – has gone home to be with the Lord!

A memorial service has been planned for October 1, 2005 (Saturday – 2:00 PM) to be held in the facilities of the Salvation Army Church in Tustin Ranch, CA, where we hold our weekly Radio Bible Class.

Ed Steele has been mightily used of the Lord in the radio broadcasting area for over 40 years, having served as well on the Executive Committee of the National Association of Religious Broadcasters. Ed is the one who encouraged David to bring his Bible-teaching to the radio back in 1970, and has served alongside of him in the radio ministry of HOPE for TODAY as well as being his radio agent. We are happy to say that his dear wife, Mary Belle, who helped this ministry survive in the early days, will continue the work of Ed Steele as the Radio Agency for this ministry.

Ed Steele manifested a quiet confidence in the Lord and a great humility before God and others. His experience as a pastor and his knowledge of the word of God were invaluable to this ministry and his wise counsel was sought by many others as well as appreciated deeply by all of us at HOPE for TODAY.
Ed had a background in music as well as in journalism – being the main writer of the articles that have appeared in our monthly newsletter – he will be sorely missed!

Ed has demonstrated through his life and ministry a tremendous love for the Nation of Israel and a strong commitment to God’s everlasting covenant to them. He has done a great deal of work through the years in the support and encouragement of various organizations, ministries, and people who have shown a dedication to Israel and its Land. It was our great pleasure and privilege to honor him publicly at our Annual Israel Conference in August. Little did we know that the Lord had plans to take him home a month later.

Please join us in prayer for the Memorial Service on October 1, 2005, and if possible, please plan to join us as we remember the life and ministry of this wonderful man of God.

ISRAEL TOUR 2005

Thursday, September 22nd, 2005

Still a bit “groggy” from the long flight home from Israel, it seemed important to give a brief “update” to our many internet friends and supporters. 103 people went with us (Sept. 8-22) and we had a blessed time in the Lord and visited the Land of Israel with all of its amazing sites and evidences of the veracity of God’s Word, the Bible.

On Wednesday Night, September 28, at our weekly Radio Bible Class (we rent the facilities of the Tustin Ranch Salvation Army Church in Tustin Ranch, CA) we will give a detailed report on our experiences there. If you are in Southern California, come by and visit us – starts at 7:00 PM – directions are in the monthly newsletter or you can call (714) 544-5272.

Israel’s withdrawal from Gaza took place just before we arrived, and we even had the opportunity of staying with many of its residents at the hotel we were occupying in Jerusalem. It is still a very sad situation and needs prayer.

Prime Minister Ariel Sharon is in a battle for his political career – the Likud Party (3000 members) of which he is now a part is in political turmoil over the so-called “disengagement plan.” Whoever wins the Party’s nomination will then by the Likud candidate in the next elections for Prime Minister. The primary opponent appears to be Benjamin Netanyahu (the former Prime Minister) and the issues appear to center in the Biblical claim to the Land of Israel and the important of not dividing the covenant land given to them by God Himself. If the Party elections come in November as currently being desired – it should be quite interesting!

Travelling in Israel is still very safe – in spite of media reports to the contrary – we were free to go where we wanted to go (including crossing the border at Bethlehem and enjoying a day with our Arab friends in that city). We also visited Beersheva at the edge of the Negev desert after a day travelling from Eilat (on the Gulf of Aqaba) up through the Sinai desert. We stopped at the famous well of Abraham and recounted the Biblical story of Genesis 22.

Our Bible teaching times were recorded and we should have them available for purchase in about 6-8 weeks. We also took thousands of pictures, and some video.

Plans now include a trip to Israel in the fall of 2006 and including Petra.

Well, I’m tired – so I think I will try to catch up on a little sleep, and get back to you all next week – Thanks for your prayers – David Hocking

2005 ISRAEL TOUR

Wednesday, September 7th, 2005

103 people are going with us this month to ISRAEL! They come from Canada, and 12 different States across America. Many are going for their very first time – what a wonderful experience they will be having!

We will have three buses this year with three of the finest Israeli Guides to lead us and share with us the history and archaeological importance of the sites that we will visit. In addition, David will be teaching each day. The group has received T-Shirts with a verse from II Chronicles 7:14 on the back of the shirt.
They have also received Journals listing the various sites and the Biblical information about them and space to write in their thoughts about each one.

After an overnight in Tel Aviv, the group will travel to the Galilee and stay three nights in Tiberias on the Sea of Galilee – we will visit many sites, including the Golan Heights and a baptism in the Jordan River. We will also travel down the Jordanian Valley all the way to the Dead Sea Hotel – Le Meridien, one of the finest and most beautiful hotels anywhere! We will visit Qumran, Masada, En Gedi, etc., while we are there for two days. Then, we will continue our journey south through the Sinai desert all the way to the seaport city of Eilat on the Gulf of Aqaba. We will visit Solomon’s mines and a replica of the Tabernacle in the wilderness at Timnah.

We will then journey through the desert up to BeerSheva and on to Jerusalem for five nights and a wonderful tour of all the blessed remembrances of our Lord and His ministry.

Thanks for your prayers, and this will be the last article until we return – God bless you all and SHALOM!

KATRINA – WHY?

Thursday, September 1st, 2005

There have been many attempts to explain this horrible tragedy that has struck the southeastern states of Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama – the hurricane is called “Katrina” and the flooding has been terrible. The loss of lives and the homelessness of thousands is greater than any tragedy in America history. President Bush was apparently overwhelmed at the extent of the damage. The government states that it will take months to rebuild and recover.

Our hearts go out to all those who suffered in this terrible disaster. The web sites on the internet are full of analysis and opinion, trying to make sense out of what happened.

Some have blamed the residents who chose to live in communities that were below sea level. That is heartless and unnecessary at this point and helps no one. Others have chosen to see this as a “natural disaster” that is the result of “global warming.” Environmentalists have leaped upon the opportunity to say “I told you so.” But, what could have been done to prevent this terrible disaster?

Some have pointed out that this hurricane occurred right before the annual “Decadence Parade” in New Orleans that yearly brings thousands of homosexuals to the affected areas. Some see it as a judgment of God upon the immorality of these gulf cities that have catered to the sinful desires of humanity and have paraded it before the world. Perhaps it is part of what happened, but we must leave that matter to God alone.

Others have made strong connection with the “disengagement plan” in Israel and the removal of Jewish families from Gaza and a few northern Samaria settlements. There have been strong words pointing to the timing of this event as it relates to what has recently transpired in Israel. Is there a connection? Again, only God knows!

But, perhaps the most important consideration deals with whether or not there is a God in the universe Who controls the weather and brings to pass such a devastating catastrophe. Psalm 29:3 says “The voice of the LORD is upon the waters…upon many waters.” Psalm 29:10 says “The LORD sitteth upon the flood.” Psalm 65:7 says “which stilleth the noise of the seas, the noise of their waves, and the tumult of the people.” Psalm 148:8 speaks of “stormy wind fulfilling His word.” Jeremiah 10:13 says: “When He uttereth His voice, there is a multitude of waters in the heavens, and He causeth the vapours to ascend from the ends of the earth; He maketh lightnings with rain, and bringeth forth the wind out of His treasures.”

This Biblical evidence points to the control and will of God behind the so-called “natural disasters.” In the future, God will bring global disasters upon the earth (the Great Tribulation) and declare them to be His judgment and wrath against a world who has rejected Him.

The fact is that many innocent people (those who did nothing to bring on the judgment of God) throughout history have suffered because of what others have done. We regret that fact and will do what we can to help bring the relief that is so desperately needed. We also pray for the outreach of the true gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ to those who are suffering greatly from this tragedy. People need the Lord! Now more than ever!

It will take many weeks, months, and perhaps years, for this area of our country to recover. Americans have always been generous in times of tragedy and crisis – may it be so again. In the meantime, we all need to reflect upon the Biblical truth that God is still on His throne and yes, God does control the weather to accomplish His purposes. After all, it made these so-called “forces of nature” in the first place! Thanks for reading.
