THE DAYS OF NOAH

Monday, May 29th, 2006

One of the interesting teachings of our Lord Yeshua about prophetic events is the connection He made with the “days of Noah.” He taught that those days of the past will be similar to what will be taking place before the return of our Messiah – Yeshua HaMashiach!

Subject: “THE DAYS OF NOAH”
Scripture: Genesis 6:1-17; Matthew 24:36-44

Matthew 24:37 – “but as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be”

WHAT MAKES THE DAYS OF NOAH LIKE THE DAYS WHEN THE MESSIAH WILL RETURN?

1A. POPULATION EXPLOSION – Genesis 6:1
“when men began to multiply on the face of the
earth”

NOTE: Average age of those listed in the first genealogy of Genesis 5 is 857 years (if you exclude Enoch, the number is over 900 years!). It says of them “begat sons and daughters” – at least four children. The total amount of years from Adam to Noah and the flood is 1656 years. If you take the year they began to have children and give at least four children to every person,
in 15 generations we have over one billion people on the planet!

2A. MORAL CORRUPTION – Genesis 6:5, 11a, 12
Matthew 24:12 – “iniquity (lawlessness) will
abound” – cf. II Timothy 3:1-5 – “perilous times”

3A. TERRIBLE VIOLENCE – Genesis 6:11b, 13
cf. II Timothy 3:3 – “fierce” (brutal)

4A. DEMONIC INFILTRATION – Genesis 6:2, 4
cf. I Timothy 4:1 – “seducing spirits and doctrines
of demons” – cf. Jude 6-7 and Revelation 9:20-21

NOTE: The term “sons of God” is used for angels in Job 1:6; 2:1; 38:4-7; Psalm 34:7; Daniel 3:24-25; but, in the NT it is used of believers – John 1:12; I John 3:10

5A. LIMITED OPPORTUNITIES – Genesis 6:3
cf. Matthew 24:42, 44; 25:13; I Peter 3:20;
II Peter 3:8-9

6A. GLOBAL DISASTER – Genesis 6:13, 17
cf. II Peter 3:10-12

7A. PERSONAL SALVATION – Genesis 6:8-10
cf. I Peter 3:20; II Peter 2:9; 3:9
cf. Matthew 24:40-41

Only eight people survived the global deluge of the entire planet in the days of Noah. Noah, his wife, his three sons (Shem, Ham, & Japheth) and their wives.
Yeshua taught us that the way to destruction is a “broad way” (Matthew 7:13-14) and that the way to everlasting life is a “narrow way” and “few” will find it!
The majority of those who say they are believers (Matthew 7:21-23) at the time before the Messiah returns are, in fact, NOT believers! Yeshua will say to them: “Depart from Me, ye workers of iniquity – I NEVER knew you!” Awesome words indeed! May God help us all to be men and women of integrity and honesty, not hypocrisy and manipulation! May we all examine ourselves carefully as to whether or not we are true believers! Is our trust in the Lord Himself and what He has done for us, or are we trusting our own wisdom, works, and profession?

ROCKETS AND ROAD MAPS

Monday, May 29th, 2006

Now we have Katusha rockets being fired at northern Israel from the terrorist group Hizbullah operating in southern Lebanon and with the backing of both Syria and Iran! Palestinian Muslim youths have also inflicted their attacks on innocent Israeli citizens this past week. Former Prime Minister Ariel Sharon (still in coma) is being transferred to another hospital. Ehud Olmert, current Prime Minister has returned from Washington with very little accomplished as to his plan for unilaterally removing Jewish families from the Biblical heartland of Judea and Samaria.

PM Olmert spoke to the combined Congress (House of Representatives and the Senate) in a stirring speech which received many standing ovations. He quoted from the Bible and said nothing about his plans to remove Jewish families, but instead spoke about Israel’s refusal to give in to pressures from world leaders and public opinion, and to never surrender to their enemies. Mr. Olmert made it clear that the hand of Israel is outstretched to Israel’s enemies to negotiate a peace agreement but that there is no response from the other side (according to him).

US President George Bush was very reluctant in his meetings with Olmert. They were trying to get to know each other a bit better, and even though the US President pledged the loyalty of the United States to its democratic partner Israel, he refused to support Olmert’s plan to remove Jewish families from Judea and Samaria. The US Administration also advised PM Olmert that he must work with Jordan and King Abdullah who is quite concerned about Israel’s plans to give in to the demands of Hamas.

The US Administration made it clear to PM Olmert that the ROAD MAP is still the foreign policy of the United States as it relates to peace between Israel and its enemies. Mr. Olmert spoke to the US Congress in clear terms about Jerusalem – he said that Israel will not divide the city. Words are easier than actions – time will tell. The issue needs lots of prayer.

A new Jewish settlement is being started in the Negev – Beer Milka – temporary housing is being moved to this “approved” settlement by the Israeli Knesset (several years ago!) – it will apparently begin this week!

The Israeli Supreme Court has ordered that Israel must give its financial support to the “Gay Pride Event” being planned for Tel Aviv. How far Israel’s judges have come from the holy and righteous standards of God’s Word! It is sad indeed!

May God be gracious, merciful, longsuffering, and compassionate toward His chosen people as they continue to rebel against his holy standards and neglect their complete trust in the LORD GOD of ISRAEL!

“THIS GENERATION”

Monday, May 22nd, 2006

In Matthew 24:34-35 we read these words from the lips of our Lord Yeshua, the Messiah of Israel:

“Verily I say unto you, THIS GENERATION shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled. Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.”

Bible teachers argue over the meaning of the words “THIS GENERATION” – The English word “generation” comes directly in sound from the Greek words. The following are possibilities:

1. The words can refer to A PERIOD OF TIME.

The Jewish people in the wilderness for 40 years are referred to in Hebrew 3:10 as “that generation.” Some believe that it refers to a period of 40 years and debate over whether it should begin with Israel becoming a nation in 1948 (Obviously this view is incorrect!) or with the taking of the Old City of Jerusalem in 1967 (this means that it concludes next year!).

Others believe that it refers to a 40 year period between the time that Yeshua spoke these words and the destruction of Jerusalem in 70 AD (often called the “preterist view”).

Some Bible teachers have argued that the length of a person’s life (stated to be 70 or possibly 80 years) is what is meant – this gives them a bit more leeway in trying to fit the words with their particular viewpoint.

2. The words refer to A RACE OF PEOPLE.

The Greek words certainly are used that way (both in the Bible and in extra-Biblical sources). The primary (from the standpoint of history) view concerning a “race of people” is that it refers to the Jewish people to whom Yeshua was speaking. This view supports the idea mentioned above, that it was fulfilled in 70 AD with the destruction of Jerusalem. The point that these words refer to the Jewish people is very likely the most adequate and accurate view. Matthew 23:36, in fact, uses the words “THIS GENERATION” in exactly that way!

Those who believe that these words express some sort of change in God’s relationship with Israel and the Jewish people believe that the Church has now replaced Israel in God’s prophetic program due to their rejection of Yeshua as their Messiah.

Added to this, in the passage in Matthew 16:28 which says: “Verily I say unto you, There be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the Son of man coming in His kingdom.” It would appear at first reading that the coming of God’s judgment is meant, and that those listening to Yeshua at that time would not die until it happened!

However, the Greek text (which originally had no chapter divisions!) continues (Matthew 17:1) with the word “AND” – and the next few verses prove that the ones who would not die until they saw the glory of the Messiah revealed were Peter, James, and John – what we call the Mount of Transfiguration. In II Peter 1:16-18 Peter refers to this event and says that there “eyewitnesses of His majesty” and says it was on the “holy mount.”

We believe that the best interpretation of the words “THIS GENERATION” is that it refers to the Nation of Israel surviving the DAY OF THE LORD which will be a day of God’s wrath upon planet earth! Bible believers refer to it as the coming GREAT TRIBULATION. It will appear that survival on the part of God’s people during the tribulation will be a major problem! In Matthew 24:21-22 Yeshua said: “For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be. And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect’s sake (this would refer to a believing remnant of Israel) those days shall be shortened.”

There are three classic reasons why we believe that the words “THIS GENERATION” refer to the Nation of Israel surviving the “time of Jacob’s trouble” or the “great tribulation”:

1. GOD’S FOREKNOWLEDGE – Romans 11:1-2 tells us that “God hath no cast away His people which He foreknew.”

2. GOD’S FAITHFULNESS – Psalm 89 speaks powerfully of this attribute of God – He is faithful to His promises. In verses 30-32 God speaks of His punishment upon the children of Israel for their disobedience and sin. However, in Psalm 89:33-37 we read:

“Nevertheless My lovingkindness will I not utterly take from him, nor suffer My FAITHFULNESS to fail. My covenant will I NOT break, nor alter the thing that is gone out of My lips. Once have I sworn by My holiness that I will not lie unto David. His seed shall endure forever, and his throne as the sun before Me. It shall be established forever as the moon, and as a FAITHFUL witness in heaven.”

God’s promises and His covenant to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob and their descendants is based on His FAITHFULNESS, NOT their performance!

3. GOD’S FORGIVENESS – Jeremiah 31:31-37 proclaims the terms of God’s “new covenant” by which He will forgive the iniquity of His people and remember their sin against them no more! In verses 36-37 it is clear that the Nation of Israel will continue to exist forever! THAT’S THE PROMISE OF GOD HIMSELF!

Therefore, THIS GENERATION (the Nation of Israel) will not pass away, until everything our Lord Yeshua described for the future takes place! Heaven and earth may pass away, but GOD’S WORD WILL NEVER PASS AWAY!

OLMERT MEETS BUSH!

Monday, May 22nd, 2006

Israel’s Prime Minister Ehud Olmert arrived in Washington, DC, today, for some serious talks with US President George Bush. This is his first official visit to the United States since taking office. However, he will be greeted by a massive protest rally on Tuesday of this week. Hundreds of busses will descend upon Washington, DC, bringing Jews and Christians together in a protest rally against PM Olmert’s plan to unilaterally remove Jewish families from the Biblical heartland of Judea and Samaria.

US President George Bush is not strongly supportive of Olmert’s unilateral withdrawal plan. He continues to support the Road Map Plan of the United Nations, European Union, Russia, and the United States. Olmert will also meet Secretary of State Dr. Condoleezza Rice (scheduled for tonight) and Defense Secretary Donald Runsfield.

PM Olmert seemed to “downplay” the issue of disagreement between he and the US President by saying to CNN before he left for the States: “There is nothing I love more than negotiating with the Palestinians.” But, he went on to explain that there is no one in the Palestinian Authority with whom he can speak. He said that PA Chairman Manmoud Abbas (Abu Mazen) “opposes terror, but he is powerless to stop terrorism and therefore, cannot speak on behalf of the Palestinian Authority (which, of course, is now controlled by Hamas).”

We call upon all believers and supporters of God’s Word concerning His covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob – to pray much this week about these very important meetings. The Bible warns us (see Ezekiel 13) about the false peace process of the end times and how the leaders in Israel will be seduced into thinking that peace is possible with their hostile enemies. The Bible also warns in Joel 3 and Daniel 11 about the attempt to divide the covenant land of Israel. That covenant (Psalm 105:8-11) is an EVERLASTING covenant – based on the unconditional promise of the LORD GOD OF ISRAEL!
May God give us all wisdom in these difficult times!

WHY ISRAEL?

Monday, May 15th, 2006

Many of our listeners and web site “lookers” have asked about our interest and commitment to the Nation of Israel. We, of course, are interested and committed to the Bible, the whole Bible, and nothing but the Bible. There are other subjects that you will find messages about in our catalog and web store. However, because of the size of the subject (biggest in the Bible next to the Lord Himself!) and its relationship to end-time events, we feel an imperative to focus on what God has said about this Nation that He promised to Abraham in His covenant (Genesis 12:1-3). In order to help our readers understand, we give you this little outline to answer the question we are asked all the time – “WHY ISRAEL?”

Subject: “WHY ISRAEL?”
Scripture: Isaiah 43:1-21

Isaiah 51:16 – “Thou art My people”

1A. IT WAS GOD’S CREATION!
Isaiah 43:1 – “the LORD that created thee, O Jacob,
and He that formed thee, O Israel”
Isaiah 43:7 – “for I have created him for My glory”
Isaiah 43:15 – “I am the LORD, your Holy One, the
Creator of Israel, your King”

2A. IT WAS GOD’S CHOICE!
Deuteronomy 7:6-9 – “the LORD thy God hath
chosen thee to be a special people unto Himself,
above all people that are upon the face of the earth”
Isaiah 41:8 – “But thou, Israel, art My servant,
Jacob whom I have chosen”
Isaiah 43:10 – “My servant whom I have chosen”
Isaiah 44:1 – “Israel, whom I have chosen”
Isaiah 44:2 – “O Jacob, My servant; and thou,
Jesurun, whom I have chosen”

3A. IT WAS GOD’S CALLING!
Isaiah 43:1 – “I have called thee by thy name; thou
art Mine”
Isaiah 43:7 – “called by My name”
Isaiah 45:3 – “I, the LORD, which call thee by thy
name, am the God of Israel”

4A. IT WAS GOD’S CONFIRMATION!
Isaiah 44:26 – “That confirmeth the word of His
servant, and performeth the counsel of His
messengers; that saith to Jerusalem, Thou shalt be
inhabited; and to the cities of Judah, Ye shall be
built, and I will raise up the decayed places thereof.”
Isaiah 46:3 – “Hearken unto Me, O house of Jacob,
and all the remnant of the house of Israel….46:10 –
My counsel shall stand and I will do all My pleasure
…46:11 – “I have spoken it, I will also bring it to
pass; I have purposed it, I will also do it.”
Psalm 105:10 – “and confirmed the same unto Jacob
for a law, and to Israel for an everlasting covenant”

5A. IT WAS GOD’S COVENANT!
Genesis 15:18 – “In the same day the LORD made a
covenant with Abram”
Genesis 17:7-8 – “And I will establish My covenant
between Me and thee and thy seed after thee in their
generations for an everlasting covenant…and I will
give thee…all the land of Canaan for an everlasting
possession; and I will be their God.”

alter the thing that is gone out of my lips.”

covenant”

saith your God”

of Me”
Isaiah 49:13 – “for the LORD hath comforted His
people”
Isaiah 51:3 – “For the LORD shall comfort Zion: He
will comfort all her waste places; and He will make
her wilderness like Eden, and her desert like the
garden of the LORD; joy and gladness shall be
found therein, thanksgiving, and the voice of melody”
Isaiah 51:12 – “I, even I, am He that comforteth you”
Isaiah 52:9 – “for the LORD hath comforted His people”
Isaiah 66:13 – “As one whom his mother comforteth
so will I comfort you”

7A. IT WAS GOD’S COMMITMENT!

1B. A commitment based on the PLAN He had to
save them! cf. Romans 11:25-36
Isaiah 43:25 – “I, even I, am He that blotteth
out thy transgressions for Mine own sake, and
will not remember thy sins”
Isaiah 44:22 – “I have blotted out, as a thick
cloud, thy sins: return unto Me; for I have
redeemed thee”
Isaiah 45:17 – “But Israel shall be saved in the
LORD with an everlasting salvation”
Isaiah 45:25 – “In the LORD shall all the seed
of Israel be justified”
Isaiah 46:13 – “I will place salvation in Zion
for Israel my glory”
Isaiah 53:5-6 – “But He was wounded for our
transgression, He was bruised for our iniquities
the chastisement of our peace was upon Him;
and with His stripes we are healed. All we like
sheep have gone astray; we have turned every
one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on
him the iniquity of us all.”
Isaiah 62:11 – “Behold, the LORD hath
proclaimed unto the end of the world, Say ye to
the daughter of Zion, Behold, thy salvation
cometh; behold, His reward is with Him, and
His work before Him”

2B. A commitment based on the PROTECTION
He would give them!
Isaiah 41:13-14 – “For I the LORD thy God
will hold thy right hand, saying unto thee, Fear
not, I will help thee. Fear not, thou worm Jacob
and ye men of Israel; I will help thee, saith the
LORD, and thy Redeemer, the Holy One of
Israel”
Isaiah 43:2 – “When thou passest through the
waters, I will be with thee; and through the
rivers, they shall not overflow thee; when thou
walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be
burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon
thee”

Isaiah 49:16 – “Behold, I have grave thee upon
the palms of My hands”

3B. A commitment based on the PURPOSE He had
to be glorified!
Isaiah 40:5 – “and the glory of the LORD shall
be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together;
for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it.”
Isaiah 43:7 – “for I have created him for My
glory”
Isaiah 43:21 – “This people have I formed for
Myself; they shall shew forth My praise”
Isaiah 44:23 – “the LORD hath redeemed
Jacob, and glorified Himself in Israel”
Isaiah 49:3 – “Thou art My servant, O Israel,
in whom I will be glorified”
Isaiah 60:21 – “Thy people also shall be all
righteous; they shall inherit the land for ever,
the branch of My planting, the work of My
hands, that I may be glorified”
Isaiah 61:3 – “that they might be called trees
of righteousness, the planting of the LORD,
that He might be glorified”

4B. A commitment based on the PROMISES of His
Word!
Isaiah 40:5 – “for the mouth of the LORD hath
spoken it”
Isaiah 46:10 – “My counsel shall stand, and I
will do all My pleasure”
Isaiah 46:11 – “I have spoken it, I will also
bring it to pass; I have purposed it, I will also
do it”
Isaiah 55:11 – “So shall My word be that goeth
forth out of My mouth: it shall not return unto
Me void, but it shall accomplish that which I
please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto
I sent it”

And the above is just a start in understanding the Biblical reasons for the Nation of Israel – God has revealed through His dealings with them that He is a God of love and a God of faithfulness – He will NEVER forsake Israel!

FINAL WORD ABOUT BABYLON

Monday, May 15th, 2006

Special thanks to those of you who are enjoying the outlines about the word “Babylon” from the Bible. Of course, many Bible teachers disagree with each other over the meaning of it. We are not trying to promote a particular view of it but only trying to get the Word of God’s teaching on it available to you before you draw a conclusion. We hope you have enjoyed this series – this is the last one out of the four we have made available to you.

1C. The sorceries – v. 23b

2C. The slayings – v. 24

SHOULD JERUSALEM BE DIVIDED?

Tuesday, May 9th, 2006

It was shocking to read of Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert’s Kadima Party’s plan to divide Jerusalem by unilaterally withdrawing from some of the city’s neighborhoods and making arrangements for key holy sites. Kadima member Othniel Schneller told the Associated Press: “We will not divide Jerusalem, WE WILL SHARE IT!”

Schneller went on to say that “Jerusalem’s Old City, its holy sites and adjacent neighborhoods would become a ‘special region with special understandings’ but remain under Israel sovereignty.” He did not specify whether that meant placing key holy sites under other custodianship.

Also, this past week, Israel gave its approval (through a vote in the Knesset) to Ehud Olmert’s government in its plan to relinquish “forever” all claims to territory that Israel as a nation has had for 4000 years and held by all its citizens to be its “everlasting, God-given land.” In his major policy speech PM Olmert left no doubt as to what he plans to do. Communities in Judea and Samaria, home to thousands of Jews and always held to be critical to the nation’s security, are scheduled to be “dismantled” and “removed.” His exact words were “THEY HAVE TO GO AND GO THEY WILL!”

Olmert had the audacity to say that his plan would be a “FAREWELL TO THE LAND OF OUR FOREFATHERS.” Incredible! Likud Party leader Benjamin Netanyahu said that there has never been an Israeli government to say such things and that has “given up on so much from the start.”

Jan Willem Van der Hoeven, a Dutch Christian and a 40-year resident of Israel, the founder of the International Christian Embassy in Jerusalem, said of this plan that it will “EXPLODE” in the faces of Olmert and those who voted for it. He referred to the fact that Israel has been warned by many military experts, political strategists, deeply concerned Jews and Christians, not to establish a Palestinian Islamic State between Israel and the Jordan River – NEVER to divide this land! In a rare piece of journalism, Van der Hoeven said: “GOD HIMSELF HAS WARNED YOU REPEATEDLY NOT TO DO THIS EVIL TO YOUR PEOPLE AND NATION. HE HAS EVEN WARNED THAT HE WILL SEVERELY JUDGE THE NATIONS WHO ADVOCATE SUCH A PATH!” He also took the opportunity to slam the government for its policies of abortion that have killed 2 million babies since 1948, and its new decision to allow a major homosexual event to take place in Jerusalem.

Perhaps the most serious and troubling turn of events that the government of Israel will now face is the concern of many evangelical, Bible-believing Christians who have been strong supporters of the Nation of Israel and have stood by them in times of deep distress and attack. They now feel betrayed, and there is serious talk occurring at the present time over these matters.

It is our sincere prayer that the leaders in Israel will stop this march toward compromise and disobedience to God’s covenant which brought the nation into existence in the first place. May the eyes of Israel’s leaders turn back to the LORD GOD of ISRAEL Who is the only One Who can save them from coming dissaster!

MYSTERY OF BABYLON

THE KING OF BABYLON

Tuesday, May 2nd, 2006

In last week’s article we gave a bit of history concerning the usage of the term “BABYLON” in the Bible. Many of you have expressed appreciation for this information and the brief outline given so here is a second article on the subject.

Subject: “THE KING OF BABYLON”
Scripture: Isaiah 14:1-27

1A. THE PROPHECIES given to Israel will all come true – Isaiah 14:1-2

1B. The COMPASSION of the Lord will be
experienced – “the LORD will have mercy
on Jacob”

2B. The CHOICE of Israel will be a reality –
“and will yet choose Israel”

3B. Their COMING to their own land will be
fulfilled – “and set them in their own land”

4B. The CLEAVING of other nations to them
will occur – “and the strangers shall be joined
with them, and they shall cleave to the house of
Jacob”

5B. The CONQUEST by Israel is promised – v. 2

1C. Domestically
2C. Militarily
3C. Politically

2A. THE PEACE THAT THE LORD WILL BRING
TO THE LAND OF ISRAEL – Isaiah 14:3-8

1B. The CURSE is removed – v. 3

2B. The CEASING of oppression is announced –
vv. 4-6

3B. The COMING of peace brings joy from all
creation – vv. 7-8

3A. THE POMP OF BABYLON IS CUT DOWN –
Isaiah 14:9-11 – cf. v. 4 – “proverb against the king
of Babylon”

1B. The RAISING of the dead to meet him – v. 9
“all the kings of the nations” (they are alive!)

2B. The REACTION they have – v. 10 – “art thou
become like unto us?”

3B. The RESULT is gruesome – v. 11 – “brought
down” – cf. v. 15

4A. THE PERSON BEHIND THE KING OF
BABYLON – Isaiah 14:12-21

1B. The REFERENCE to “Lucifer” is a play on
Canaanite religion – v. 12a
cf. Luke 10:17-20

NOTE: The Hebrew word helel means “morning star” – Helel & Ishtar in Canaanite religion attempted a heavenly coup that failed (according to Canaanite mythology).

2B. The REALIZATION of how he affected the
nations – v. 12b

3B. The REASON for his fall – vv. 13-14
(five “I will” statements)
v. 13 – a reminder of the Tower of Babel of
Genesis 11:1-9
v. 14 – a reminder of Genesis 3 – “I will be
like the Most High”

NOTE: The phrase in v. 13 – “in the sides of the north” is translated in the Jewish TANAKH – “on the summit of Zaphon” (abode of the gods); NIV: “on the utmost heights of the sacred mountain” – the same thing is found in Psalm 48:2 where the phrase “sides of the north” is literally “summit of Zaphon.” The NRSV translates “on the heights of Zaphon.” Mount Zaphon in northern Philistia was considered to be the seat of Canaanite gods.

4B. The RESULT cannot be avoided – v. 15
“brought down to hell (Sheol) to the sides of the
pit” – the abyss or the bottomless pit – cf.
II Peter 2:4; Revelation 9:1-2, 11; 20:1-3
“Sheol” – Hebrew translated into Greek is
“Hades” and refers both to the “grave” and to
“Hell.”

5B. The REMEMBRANCE of what he had done
would be judged severely by God – vv. 16-21

1C. His influence over others would be
mocked – vv. 16-17

2C. His importance would not be recognized
by others – vv. 18-20

3C. His iniquity would bring tragedy and
failure to his descendants – v. 21

5A. THE PURPOSE OF GOD WILL BE
FULFILLED – Isaiah 14:22-27

1B. It is based on the DESTRUCTION of Babylon – vv. 22-23 – “I will rise up against them, saith
the LORD of hosts”
“I will make it…”
“I will sweep it…”

2B. It is based on the DECISION of the Lord
Himself – v. 24 – “the LORD of hosts hath
sworn”

3B. It is based on the DELIVERANCE God will
bring – v. 25

4B. It is based on the DETERMINATION of God
in carrying it out – vv. 26-27 – “For the LORD
of hosts hath purposed – who shall disannul it?”

INDEPENDENCE DAY – HOW TO CELEBRATE?

Tuesday, May 2nd, 2006

There is a great deal of confusion right now in the Jewish communities of Israel over how to celebrate “INDEPENDENCE DAY” – remembering the beginning of “ERETZ YISRAEL” (LAND OF ISRAEL) in May of 1948.

Since the destruction of 30 synagogues and the removal of Jewish families from Gaza last summer, the mood this year has changed – especially in the religious communities.

Today is also Israel’s MEMORIAL DAY as Israel’s 7 million citizens remember those who have fallen in war and who have been victims of terrorism. The first Jerusalem neighborhood (outside the walls of the Old City) was built in 1860, and the first victim was a man named Aharon Hershler, who was killed on January 1, 1873 by Arabs who burst into his house. He is buried in the cemetery on Mt. Olives. Between 1920 and 2000 AD (the year the Intifida began – sometimes called the “Oslo War”) it is estimated that over 2000 civilians have been killed. During the past year, 138 soldiers and security forces have fallen in the line of duty. Since 2000 AD, 794 civilians have been murdered including 150 little children – the number includes 42 tourists and foreign workers.

So, as you can well imagine, there is a somber note being sounded as Israel prepares to celebrate INDEPENDENCE DAY. The words of several Jewish Rabbis in Israel are worth repeating:

RABBI YAAKOV MEIDAN
“Independence Day should be celebrated with thanksgiving, but NOT with festivity and joy.” However, cutting back on the prayers would mean that we are directing the blame toward G-d, Heaven forbid, and that is not correct. we must turn our State’s birthday from a secular New Year-type to a Jewish New Year-type – a day of prayer and hard work and reckoning.”

RABBI SHABTAI SABATO
“It cannot be that we simply go on as if nothing has happened. How can we hang Israeli flags all over the streets, even here in Yesha (Judea and Samaria) without at least an orange ribbon (the color to symbolize the struggle in Gaza) handing from them? Yes, the State is THE BEGINNING OF REDEMPTION, but would this be true had they not merely expelled the Jews from Gush Katif, but also killed some of them? Are there any red-lines?”

RABBI ELIEZER MELAMED
“For many generations we prayed to G-d and asked Him to ‘save us and gather us together from among the nations, so that we may thank Your Holy Name and triumph in Your praise’ (Psalm 106), and now that He has done so, shall we not thank and praise Him?”

There are still many Christian teachers who argue that the Modern State of Israel is not a fulfillment of Bible prophecy. We believe otherwise, and will continue to pray for the peace that only the Messiah of Israel can bring!
SHALOM!
