DO AMERICANS SUPPORT ISRAEL?

Wednesday, March 28th, 2007

The Jerusalem Post – March 28, 2007
by Haviv Rettig

Americans oppose giving land to Palestinians by a margin of five to one, according to a new poll conducted by McLaughlin & Associates for the Zionist Organization of America.

To the question, “In your opinion, should Israel give more land to the Palestinians?” 60 percent of Americans rejected ceding land while 11% favored it.

Poll: Israeli teens aware of global anti-Semitism
The poll, conducted among 1,000 Americans on March 25, also found that Americans overwhelmingly (by a factor of 45% to 4.6%) supported Israel over the Palestinians in the context of the conflict.

“This puts to rest that anti-Semitic nonsense [according to which] a small group of Jews are pushing America into doing Israel’s will,” commented ZOA head Morton Klein upon the release of the poll s findings on Tuesday.

“American congressmen support Israel because their constituents do,” he told The Jerusalem Post, adding, “if [Americans’ support was] 10-to one in favor of the Arabs over Israel, I promise you Congress would not be supporting Israel.”

The study’s findings indicate that a primary issue which may be detracting from support for the Palestinians is terrorism, with Americans believing by a factor of 45% to 22% that a Palestinian state would be a “terrorist state rather than a peaceful democracy.”

“And it’s not surprising,” commented Klein, saying of the Palestinians: “It’s not like they’re acting like decent civilized people promoting peace. They’re not. Most Palestinians say in polls [conducted in Palestinian areas] that even if they have a state they will continue with terrorism.”

The study also found a consistent trend in which some Americans – between a quarter and a half of the population – replied that they were not familiar with the issue or had no preference for either side.

The study’s findings regarding Egypt and Saudi Arabia show that Americans are almost as wary of these countries as they are of Palestinian intentions, as 65% of Americans believe that Saudi Arabia is an unreliable and untrustworthy ally “in the war against radical Islamic terrorism,” according to the figures, compared with only 11% who believe the opposite.

Similar sentiments (46% to 24%) were expressed towards Egypt, saying it was unreliable.

The study even found that two-thirds of those who expressed an opinion favoring imposing economic sanctions on Saudi Arabia “until it stops its support and funding for terrorists and radical Islamic education.” This support comes from a thin majority of Americans, with 51% of those polled in favor of sanctions and 26% opposed.

WHAT IS BIBLE PROPHECY?

Monday, March 26th, 2007

There are many attempts to support the efforts of those who speak and write about Bible prophecy and suggest that it involves interpreting current events in the light of various Bible passages or that the individual speaking or writing could be able to predict events and circumstances in our time. We do NOT believe that this is the point of genuine BIBLE prophecy!

Please read carefully the words of II Peter 1:12-21.

BIBLE PROPHECY REFERS TO THE MARVEL OF OUR DEPARTURE INTO THE PRESENCE OF OUR LORD YESHUA! II Peter 1:12-15

Although often neglected by speakers of Bible prophecy, the Bible emphasizes that we have a hope beyond the grave and that to be “with Christ” is definitely “far better” – read Philippians 1:21-23. The argument is clearly presented also in II Corinthians 5:1-8.

BIBLE PROPHECY REFERS TO THE MAJESTY OF OUR GLORIOUS LORD YESHUA! II Peter 1:16-18

Titus 2:13 speaks of the “blessed hope” for which believers should be looking and calls it “the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ!” In Matthew 16:27-28 Yeshua (Jesus) referred to “some” who were standing there at that moment who would not die until they saw the coming glory of the Lord and His Kingdom! Matthew 17:1 begins with the word “and” – a continuation of the passage (no chapter divisions in the original text!) and the “some” obviously refers to Peter, James, and John. John wrote in John 1:14 that “we beheld His glory” and Peter wrote in the above passage that they were “eyewitnesses of His majesty” and saw His glory. If Bible Prophecy is being taught correctly than it focuses on the glorious return of the Messiah of Israel – He is the hope of the world!

BIBLE PROPHECY REFERS TO THE MESSAGE UPON WHICH WE CAN TOTALLY RELY! II Peter 1:19

Peter calls it “a more sure word of prophecy” – please read Hebrews 6:13-20 carefully where we learn that God’s promise to Abraham is a “sure…anchor of the soul.”

BIBLE PROPHECY REFERS TO THE MEANING OF WHAT GOD HAS REVEALED! II Peter 1:20

“Knowing this first that no prophecy of the Scripture (that which was written) is of any private interpretation.” There is only one interpretation of Scripture – that which God intended when it was written! We have no right to come up with additional “stuff” to what the Bible clearly says!

An example of how this fact is continually abused by speakers is the emphasis they make on when the Lord will return. It is common for them to choose the date of Rosh HaShanah (Feast of Trumpets) even though the Bible says we do not know the “day or the hour” when He will come. The Bible says He will come at an hour when we do not expect Him to come!

BIBLE PROPHECY REFERS TO THE METHOD BY WHICH GOD’S REVELATION WAS GIVEN TO US! II Peter 1:21

We are told in this verse that it “came not in old time” – a clear fact that genuine Bible prophecy is NOT referring to any recent communications! It is also NOT the result of human reasoning – the verse says “the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man.” It is rather the product of special men (“holy” – means “separated” for this task) who were chosen for this responsibility. A good passage to compare with this is found in Hebrews 2:1-4. It is the control of the Holy Spirit of God that guarantees the accuracy and total reliability of the written Word of God! The verse says that they “spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.” The Greek word for “moved” (pheromenoi) is used in Acts 27:15, 17 and translated by the words “drive” or “driven.” The ship in the storm was now under the control of the wind.

A SUMMARY OF THE ISSUE OF BIBLE PROPHECY:

1. Bible Prophecy gives hope beyond the grave!

2. Bible Prophecy centers on the true identity of the Messiah of Israel, our blessed Lord Yeshua!

3. Bible Prophecy bases its teachings on the Bible alone!

4. Bible Prophecy refuses to depart from the historical and grammatical meaning of the words of the Bible!

5. Bible Prophecy believes without question that the Bible IS the Word of the living God – inerrant, inspired, and totally accurate in all it says!

UN SECRETARY-GENERAL VISITS ISRAEL

Monday, March 26th, 2007

by Ezra HaLevi

(IsraelNN.com) United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon visited Israel Sunday, paying tribute to dead PLO chief Yasser Arafat but refusing to meet with Hamas officials.

Ban arrived Saturday and met with Fatah chief and PA chairman Mahmoud Abbas on Sunday.

The Secretary-General praised Abbas for his faction’s participation in the unity government but refrained from making any commitments. “We will have to wait and see how the new government accepts the international conditions,” he said. “I expect that with this formation of the national unity government, the leaders of this government will abide by the principles laid out by the Quartet,” he said, referring to the requirements set out by Russia, America, the EU and the UN with regard to renouncing terrorism and recognizing the Jewish state.

PA Information Minister Mustafa Barghouti told an Arabic radio station that Ban’s meeting with Abbas was an official recognition of the Hamas-led PA government. “This government is a single team,” Barghouti said. “Whoever meets with one member is meeting with the entire government.”

Earlier Sunday, Ban visited Bethlehem and the Gush Etzion region south of Jerusalem. He said there that the wall being built by Israel does not “serve the peace process between Israel and the Palestinian Authority” and called for its removal.

Ban later met with the parents of PA Arabs serving time in Israeli prisons for involvement in terrorist activity.

The Secretary-General also visited the grave of Yasser Arafat in Ramallah Sunday. He laid a wreath of white flowers on the site before closing his eyes in meditation. Ban will meet Prime Minister Ehud Olmert Monday and be taken on a tour of the Yad VaShem Holocaust Museum’s Holocaust Art section Monday by government officials. This will be Ban’s second visit to the museum, as he was taken during a state visit while serving as Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of South Korea.

Netanyahu Issues Call to World From Jerusalem Conference – reported by Hillel Fendel (IsraelNN.com)

Binyamin Netanyahu, speaking at the 4th Annual Jerusalem Conference Monday morning, repeated his call for the world to prove that now is not like the 1930s and that the world knows how to respond this time.

“Historic tragedies occur when leaders do not foresee dangers – and the opposite is true: Great things happened when leaders foresaw and took advantage of opportunities,” the former Prime Minister and present head of the Knesset opposition said. “Today we have both. The great threat of the spread of militant Islam around the world, and the opportunity of globalization, which can bring a great blessing to mankind and especially to small countries like us – if we are smart enough to take advantage of this opportunity.

“First, the dangers: For years, I have been warning about the dangers of Islam. Ten years ago, after I was elected PM and I went to speak before both houses of Congress. I recently looked up my speech and I saw that I said the same things – the dangers of Iran arming with nuclear power and its becoming a menace to humanity. I can’t say I was successful in convincing many people: I tried to convince Clinton and Yeltsin and the President of China, but they just didn’t see the dangers.

“A few months ago, I said that it is now 1938 and Iran is Germany. I was told that things are different now, and that the world now has a different approach. So I say: ‘Great, if it’s different, let’s see how it’s different!’ The difference is not that then it was a ‘race superiority’ issue and now it’s a ‘religious superiority’ issue – that’s not the point. The only difference is that Hitler first tried to conquer the world and only afterwards was going to try for atomic power, while now, Ahmadinajad is trying first for nuclear power and only then will he try to conquer the world! That’s the whole difference! This is a tidal wave that threatens to engulf first Israel, and then the rest of the world. They are talking openly about a new Reich – except that they call it a Khalifate; that’s what they want to establish in the world. But for this to happen, they need a cataclysmic event to bring it on – and they are working on that.

“The question is what have we learned from 1939? If, as everyone says, we didn’t act in time to stop Hitler – so let’s see if they act in time now! The way to do this is first by exerting economic pressure on Iran, to which it is very vulnerable. They have 20% unemployment, and we can take advantage of this in order to cause a destabilization of the government. Of course, we must also enact sanctions against the 400 companies that do business with Iran, among them some very big ones such as the French oil company Total. We need a world coalition against genocide! This is what I tell the world: If we’re not in the 30s now, then let’s prove it! Sanctions against Iran are a good idea for a few months or a year – let’s see if they work – but not longer than that! Iran must not be allowed to obtain nuclear power!

“There is a simple principle that governs negotiations with our neighbors, as we have learned ever since 1993 [the signing of the Oslo Accords –ed.]. We thought that we had to demand Arab acceptance and an erasure of their desire to destroy us. Yet then came the actual talks, and we found ourselves making concessions – including some very painful ones – and all without receiving our basic demand of an erasure of their intention to destroy us. They have not abandoned this plan! So what we have learned is that this cannot be part of the negotiations; it must be made clear that this cannot be negotiated – whether in the form of our very existence, or in the form of a demand for the “right of return” and the deluge of millions of Arabs, which can destroy us in the same way! If they don’t understand that at the outset, they cannot be our partners for negotiations! It’s very nice that our government is happy that the Mecca Agreement doesn’t demand the right of return right now at – what time is it? 11:05? – right now. But what about a bit later on?

“I also mentioned that this is a time for great opportunities. The fact is that in the coming decades, we are going to need to defend ourselves – we are a small country – in many ways, on land, air, and by sea. Where will all the money for this come from? No one is going to give it to us. It can come, however, from our own ingenuity, with which we are blessed in abundance. The decades-long argument over whether socialism-communism or capitalism is better has been decided – communism has been shown to be a total failure. It had great education, but people lived in abject poverty, and the societal gaps grew larger and larger as the ruling classes took all the wealth for themselves. The walls finally fell, and here, too, they will fall. We are coming around to realize this. Why is it that countries that were way behind us economically are now ahead of us – countries such as Spain, Ireland, and Singapore? Because they did three things: they reduced the public sector, and expanded the private sector – cutting taxes which then brought to more production and more taxes – and allowed competition. We have to do the same. We can’t have one phone company, or to sell it off to one owner who will continue to run it as a monopoly, but rather have competition. There was fear that Bezeq would lose jobs, but in the end, many thousand more jobs were created in the competing companies, and those who lost jobs with Bezeq received jobs there as well! At the same time, this gives us many more markets, and more competition for jobs, thus raising wages – and then we have from where to give elderly benefits, and school lunches, and the like. We added 270,000 more jobs – that’s not social welfare?! We gave 150,000 school lunches – that’s not social welfare?

Netanyahu ended his address on a resounding optimistic note: “In short, with G-d’s help, and with the help of our realization that we are struggling for an ancient cause of the renewal of the Jewish People on our land in our renewed country, we will prevail.”

WHAT IS WORSHIP?

Monday, March 19th, 2007

We continue to receive comments and questions about the meaning of “worship” and how is being practiced in evangelical churches today.

The English word “worship” appears 108 times in the King James Bible of which 64 usages are in the OT. The Book of Revelation in the NT contains 15 usages.

The main Hebrew word is “shachah” and it is used 193 times and basically means “to bow down.” The main Greek word is “proskuneo” which is used 60 times in the NT and means “to kiss toward” – 22 of these usages are in the Book of Revelation.

Our Lord Yeshua said to a Samaritan woman (John 4:23): “the Father seeketh such to worship Him.” While certainly not dealing with details about how “worship” is being practiced, it would be good for us to consider the following six things (Be sure to read the verses that are listed!):

1. WORSHIP IS THE REASON BEHIND THE CREATION OF ALL THINGS!
Nehemiah 9:6; Psalm 95:3-6; Romans 1:20-23; Revelation 4:9-11

2. WORSHIP IS THE REALIZATION OF THE HOLINESS OF GOD!
Joshua 5:13-15; I Chronicles 16:28-29; Psalm 29:1-2; 96:8-9; 99:1-3, 5, 9

3. WORSHIP IS THE RECOGNITION OF OUR SIN AND UNWORTHINESS BEFORE GOD!
Exodus 34:6-9; Nehemiah 9:1-3

4. WORSHIP IS THE RESULT OF THOSE WHO KNOW THE GREATNESS AND POWER OF GOD!
Psalm 66:1-4; Revelation 4:8-11; 11:15-17; 15:3-4; 19:1-4

5. WORSHIP IS THE RESPONSE OF THOSE WHO KNOW THE MERCY AND SALVATION OF GOD!
Psalm 5:7; 86:1-13; Revelation 5:9-14; 7:9-12

6. WORSHIP IS THE RELATIONSHIP WE HAVE IN OUR HEARTS TO THE LORD!
Matthew 15:7-9; John 4:20-24; Philippians 3:1-14; Colossians 2:16-23

May the Lord open our hearts to the need of true “WORSHIP” as we seek to honor, praise, bless, adore, exalt, and magnify the Name of the LORD!

FATAH FIRES ROCKETS AT ISRAEL
by Ezra HaLevi

The same day that Mahmoud Abbas’s Fatah group signed onto a joint platform with Hamas, Fatah’s Al Aksa Brigades group fired five Kassam rockets toward Israeli towns in the western Negev. The Al Aksa Brigades Fatah terror group said the five rockets it launched Thursday were aimed at Ashkelon, Sderot and the resettled community of Elei Sinai, whose residents were expelled by the government from northern Gaza almost two years ago. The IDF said it had no knowledge of the attacks.

Egyptian police captured a would-be suicide bomber in the Sinai Peninsula. The would-be bomber, Gaza resident Hamid Al-Nadur, had a suicide belt with him and admitted that he planned to attack Israelis. It is not yet known whether Al-Nadur planned to attack Israelis in Sinai or to infiltrate Israel and attack there.
Along with Al-Nadur, police arrested an Egyptian man suspected of assisting him. Nine Egyptian residents of Rafiah suspected of membership in an armed terrorist cell were arrested as well.

These rocket attacks are considered to be “legal” according to the PA Platform.
The move does not violate the policy statement, which seems to commit Fatah to respecting the right to use terrorism against Israel rather than the commitment by Hamas to eschew terror hoped for by the so-called Quartet of nations. “Our people have the right to defend themselves before any Israeli aggression,” the platform reads. The platform also says that such attacks will be launched until the conditions of surrender outlined here are met:

* “The right of return of Palestinian refugees”
* “Ending all forms of occupation in the Palestinian territories, including removing the racist wall, settlements and stopping the Judaization of Jerusalem.”
* Concerning the Gaza ceasefire, which has been broken more than 150 times by Arab terrorists since it was announced in late November: It will be maintained “in return for Israel’s cessation of its occupation measures…such as assassinations, arrests, incursions, house demolition, clearing of lands, excavation in Jerusalem [and] lifting of checkpoints and reopening of crossing points, the ending of travel restrictions and the release of prisoners”.

IS THIS A “DECLARATION OF WAR”?
Minister of Strategic Affairs Avigdor Lieberman called the new political platform of the Palestinian Authority a declaration of war Thursday night. Lieberman said that the goal of the new PA leadership is clearly the destruction of Israel and that Israel is now obliged to cut off ties with PA chief and Fatah chairman Mahmoud Abbas. “The PA is now clearly run by Hamas,” he said, “and Abbas is trying to get international approval for Hamas terrorism.” Lieberman said that Israel must form a national emergency government of all Zionist parties and that he would advance the move at the next Knesset session. MK Zevulun Orlev (National Union/NRP) said that the platform shows a united Arab decision to continue with terrorism until Israel is destroyed.

MK Silvan Shalom (Likud) said the new joint control of the PA is a ploy to obtain international acceptance and blamed the government for failing to maintain an international boycott of the PA. Meretz Chairman MK Yossi Beilin hailed the joint platform as an opportunity for negotiations with the PA. MK Ran Cohen (Meretz) said the government is obligated to renew negotiations in order to prove that Israel truly wants peace. France agrees with Meretz and intends to support the new PA government, according to incoming PA Foreign Minister Ziad Abu Amr, who says French Foreign Minister Phillipe Douste-Blazy invited him to a Paris meeting to begin “a new page in the relations between the Hamas government and the international community.”

The United States is withholding judgment on the new Hamas-Fatah unity government “until its policies become clearer,” according to State Department Spokesman Sean McCormack. He said the US would continue to work with Abbas, regardless of the decision. White House spokesman Tony Snow reiterated that the Bush administration will only recognize the new PA government if it recognizes Israel, renounces violence and accepts existing agreements.

SCHOOLS PREPARE FOR MISSILE ATTACKS
Schools nationwide held drills on Thursday to practice for an enemy attack. Students practiced running into bomb shelters and remaining calm. The exercise gave teachers a chance to check preparedness, both of the students and of the bomb shelters. While school would be cancelled in case of a nationwide attack, the exercise prepared students and teachers for the time between the beginning of an attack and the cancellation of classes. During the war with Hizbullah last summer, students in many schools and universities were caught off guard by rocket fire, and did not know where to find shelter.

THIRD INTIFADA?
Two rock attacks took place in the Shomron region on Thursday night. In the first attack, Arabs threw stones at Israelis who were driving north of Ramallah. The second attack took place east of Kalkilya. No injuries were reported in either attack. Two cars were damaged. Arab terrorists opened fire on a group of soldiers in Shechem on Thursday night. No soldiers were injured in the attack. A PA Arab man was killed after when a smuggling tunnel between Rafah and Egypt collapsed, according to PA reports. Two men were injured in the collapse. IDF soldiers arrested nine wanted terrorists from the Hamas and PFLP terror groups Thursday night. Four were caught in a village northwest of Ramallah and one was nabbed southwest of Bethlehem. Four others were arrested west of Hevron. The arrests, according to the new PA platform, are a violation of the cease-fire and are grounds for a PA counter-attack.

(HFT Editor’s note) It seems that no matter what efforts are made to negotiate a peace settlement between Israel and the Palestinian Authority, the hostilities will continue and the key issue unresolved – the recognition of Israel’s right to exist in this land! Yes, a false peace agreement will be made (Daniel 9:24-27), but it would appear that the entire Middle East is heading toward Armageddon. The real “peace” solution will only come when the Prince of peace, our blessed Lord Yeshua, the Messiah of Israel, returns from heaven and destroys all nations who bring their armies against Israel, and the Messiah will set up a kingdom that will NEVER be destroyed! Israel will NOT be forsaken by God and He has NEVER cancelled His everlasting covenant with the Nation of Israel!

JACOB’S TROUBLE

Tuesday, March 13th, 2007

In Jeremiah 30:7-11 we learn of a coming period of time known as “Jacob’s Trouble.” It is described as the most severe time of “trouble” that the Nation of Israel has ever experienced – cf. Matthew 24:21-22.

The Bible refers to it as the coming “Day of the LORD.” It is apparently launched by the “Abomination of Desolation” (a person) standing in the “holy place” (temple) – cf. Matthew 24:15. It apparenty will continue for 1290 days – cf. Daniel 12:11.

The Bible reveals two purposes for this time of “Jacob’s Trouble” – First – it is a time of testing for the Nation of Israel; Second – it is a time of the Lord’s triumph over all nations of the world who come against Israel!

There is no specific teaching about the Church on earth during this time. The absence of any information about the Church argues for the removal of church-age believers during this time – cf. I Thessalonians 4:16-17.
Concerning the coming “Day of the LORD” which is described as the “Day of God’s Wrath” upon planet earth – I Thessalonians 1:10 says clearly: “For God hath NOT appointed US to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ!

(Editor’s Note: For more information about the removal of the Church during the coming Day of the LORD, order David’s book: “THE CASE FOR PRE-TRIBULATIONALISM” – call 1-800-75-BIBLE)

THE TRUTH ABOUT PALESTINIAN ARABS

Tuesday, March 13th, 2007

My Truth: Straight from the horse’s mouth
By AVIGDOR LIEBERMAN
-reported in the Jerusalem Post – 3/13/2007

Straight from the horse’s mouth

“We, the Palestinian Arabs who live in Israel, natives of this land and citizens of this country… found ourselves within the borders of the Jewish state, detached from the rest of our Palestinian nation and the Arab world, were coerced to carry an Israeli citizenship and turned into a minority within our historic homeland.”

This is the introduction to ‘The Future Vision of the Palestinian Arabs in Israel’ – a recently published document written by the National Committee of Heads of Arab Councils, a sister-body of the Supreme Monitoring Council of Israel’s Arabs – their highest governing body. The underlying message of this document is that they will never accept the existence of a Jewish state:

“The definition of the state as a Jewish state and the use of democracy in service of its Jewishness turns us away and places us in conflict with the nature and essence of the country we live in”.

I am, to some extent, relieved that the truth is finally out there, straight from the horse’s mouth, and this document is not the sole example. In the last couple of months, Adalah, the Legal Center for Arab Minority Rights in Israel, petitioned the Supreme Court to revoke the Law of Return; Sheikh Ra’aed Salah, the head of the Northern Muslim Faction, has openly denounced Israel’s right to exist; and head of Shin Bet has reported of an increase in Arab Israeli citizens’ identification with terror organizations, Iran, Hizbullah, Hamas and other bodies that do not recognize Israel’s right to exist. A recent poll suggests that 76% of Arab Israeli citizens regard the definition of Israel as a Zionist state as racist.
“There are two fundamental facts that should be taken into account when developing the legal status of the Palestinian-Arabs in Israel:
The Palestinian-Arabs being the original owners of the land…
Their being a living and inseparable part of the Arab-Palestinian nation”.

Allowing myself to skip the historical inaccuracy of point number one, I find point number two intriguing. This is one of the only points upon which I can see eye to eye with the authors of this document. I have claimed this for years, and made it a central component of Israel Beitenu’s platform. Israel must insist that a final agreement with the Palestinians should ensure that the vast majority of those who call themselves “Arab-Palestinians in Israel” find themselves excluded from the State of Israel and reunited with their nation.

These developments warrant a paradigm shift in the mainstream Israeli approach on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The question we have to be asking ourselves is not how do we envision the future Palestinian state, rather how we envision the future of the Jewish State. While it has become universally acceptable to speak of a Palestinian nation-state, the right of Jewish self-determination in the land of Israel still has to be fought for. We have to start acting like a defensive democracy, ensuring that the liberties and freedoms that democracy allows its citizens aren’t being used to bring to its downfall.

THE CREATION DEBATE

Thursday, March 8th, 2007

The last half of the 20th century AD proved to be a platform of disagreement and compromise among God’s people concerning the issue of creation as recorded in the first two chapters of Genesis. The onslaught of secular views about the origin of the solar system has accelerated and the theories of evolution have continued to dominate the media and educational system of America.

Many Americans have been “sold” a philosophy that undermines the value of human life and removes the presence and necessity of belief in God. Today most people in the Media simply ignore the Biblical record of creation preferring to accept the teachings of evolution and views of the origin of the solar system that leave God out of the discussion. The belief in the “big bang” theory that teaches that certain chemicals (eternal) came together and exploded and brought about the amazing universe that we now have is simply preposterous! It takes “faith” to believe in such a ridiculous conclusion! But, people continue to accept it without any hesitation or question.

The Biblical record is simple, clear, and refreshing in its answers as to how everything in the material and physical universe came into being. It did not take 24-25 billion years to bring us to where we are at present – the Bible teaches that it happened by God’s power in six days (24 hour days – cf. Exodus 20:13). The opening words of the Bible (Genesis 1:1) simply state: “IN THE BEGINNING GOD” – Yes, the secret to understanding how it all happened is to begin with the God Who made it all! Between Genesis 1:1 and 2:3 (34 verses) the word “GOD” appears 35 times. The Hebrew word “elohim” is found 2605 times in the Hebrew Bible. In this Biblical account, the words “GOD SAID” are found 10 times as are the words “GOD MADE.” The words “GOD CREATED” are found 7 times as are the words “GOD SAW.” On three occasions we read “GOD BLESSED” and “GOD CALLED.” The Bible is the clearest and most understandable record of how the universe came into being – it begins with GOD!

CREATION IS A REVELATION OF THE GLORY OF GOD!

Psalm 19:1 tells us that the heavens “declare the glory of God.” The PREEXISTENCE of the eternal GOD is assumed and even His specific PURPOSE is implied in the words “and the earth was without form and void” – the Hebrew words “tohu” and “bohu” (found in Jeremiah 4:23 and Isaiah 24:1) speak of the earth as being “empty” (nothing on it yet!) and “uninhabited” – which clearly means that God’s purpose was for the earth to be inhabited by humanity which He would create. The simple word “was” does NOT mean “to become.” The Hebrew letter (vav or waw) is the conjunction “and” and grammatically it is what we call “disjunctive” and not “consecutive” – it describes the preceding clause, not that which happens subsequently. In other words, the description of “without form and void” does not describe some sort of chaotic event that brought us dinosaurs and cavemen! That is nonsense! Isaiah 45:18 clearly states that God “formed it to be inhabited.”

The creation of the universe was the result of the simple spoken Word of the one and only GOD! Ten times in Genesis 1:1-2:3 we read “GOD SAID” – Psalm 33:6, 9; 148:1-6; and Hebrews 11:3.

CREATION IS A REFLECTION OF THE GOODNESS OF GOD!

The word “good” appears 7 times and in Genesis 1:31 we read that what God had created was “VERY GOOD.” The word for “good” refers to that which is intrinsically good as well as to the purpose behind it – read Romans 8:28 – “all things.” Psalm 119:68 reminds us that God is good and always does good! Everything that God created was for our “good” and His “glory” – Psalm 107:1, 8, 15, 21-22, 31 and James 1:17.

CREATION IS A REALIZATION OF THE GUARANTEE THAT THE NATION OF ISRAEL WILL NEVER CEASE TO EXIST!

That is the clear message of the “New Covenant” mentioned in Jeremiah 31:31-37.

CREATION IS A REMINDER OF THE GRACE OF GOD!

Creation gives us what belongs to God for our enjoyment – that is GRACE!
Psalm 89:11; 115:15-16. Creation also motivates us to worship Him because, in fact, we do not deserve it – once again, that is GRACE! Read Nehemiah 9:6; Psalm 95:5-7 and Ephesians 1:4-6. God gave us what we did not deserve, what we could not achieve, and what we could not design by our own skills or ingenuity – that’s GRACE!

Ephesians 2:8-9 says “For by grace are ye saved through faith, and that is not of yourselves; it is the gift of God – not of works lest any man should boast.”

THE OLMERT GOVERNMENT AND THE TRAGEDY OF KADIMA

Thursday, March 8th, 2007

When the Kadima Party was formed by the former Prime Minister, Ariel Sharon, it resulted in many Knesset members leaving the Likud Party and joining with the new attempt to organize the government around new policies and negotiations with Israel’s hostile enemies. Ehud Olmert was elected as Prime Minister and proceeded with re-organization and replacement of Cabinet members with new personnel more in line with his stated goals. The results have been tragic.

Recent polls show that only 3% of Israelis support the government of Ehud Olmert and calls for a new coalition government are becoming stronger with every passing day. The compromise of this present government and its desire to please the nations of the world have led to a weak military strategy (evidenced by what happened in Lebanon last summer) and a strengthening of Israel’s enemies. These terrorist groups that are now in control of the Palestinian Authority’s Parliament and government are boldly stating that the end of the Jewish State of Israel is in sight! They believe that it is inevitable that Israel will collapse under the pressure and be destroyed by the new weapons and strategies of Israel’s enemies. The financing of Saudi Arabia, Iran, and Syria (in particular) has strengthened their belief that now is the time to destroy the Jewish State of Israel.

Interestingly, former Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is drawing in all polls almost 10 times the support of the current Prime Minister. Also, in recent days, several members of the Kadima Party have stated that they intend to return to the Likud Party and support a stronger government that is willing to stand up to the terrorism of our day.

Of course, Bible believers are watching the situation in Israel very carefully. It is our sincere prayer that the leaders, both political and military, will call upon the LORD GOD of Israel for wisdom and direction. The nation is in serious need of repentance and prayer (and….so is America!).

Our trust is not in human leadership or military might…it is in the LORD GOD of Israel Who has promised by way of an everlasting covenant that the Nation of Israel will NEVER cease to exist!
